The journey begins…
I arrived in Bemidji, MN yesterday. I was picked up by Mark, the Outdoor Programs Director at BSU, and shown around the town. After touring around for a bit, he introduced me to another Mark who lives on the Mississippi river. He hosted me for the night while I await my boats arrival. His kindness and hospitality comes from someone who has traveled and simply because he is a good guy. I met his wife and 3 kids at a birthday party. I met a lot of his friends who liked the idea of my adventure. Many of the friends have done other adventures, so the respect and understanding was there. Last night, I slept for 12+ solid hours. It was needed from a long week of prepping for this adventure.
Today, I picked up some rain gear, a mosquito jacket and head cover. The bugs are quite thick here. I think I have all the gear needed. I will study the maps tonight as my boat should arrive in the morning. I am like a kid waiting for Christmas right now. I can not wait to explore the river and all that Mother Nature has in store for me.
