Day 68: Rain Day
Alton Marina
Today was a lazy day off with the rain storms coming all day. I slept in as it was raining pretty heavy all night and morning. I did not take into account the slope of the cement patio I was on last night. The rain was coming down hard and it was flowing right under my tent. I am glad the waterproof floor held up. I put everything in or on dry bags just in case. I will learn from that error for future camping locations.
I got moving and called a cab to get to Fast Eddies. I arrived and was impressed. The food ordering system took awhile, but it was cheap and good. I sat there enjoying the atmosphere. It seemed to be a cross between the hype of In-N-Out burgers and any fun Sturgis bar. I liked the vibe of the place. I picked up a shirt before leaving not knowing if I would make it back tonight to take photos.
I ended up asking a couple for a ride back to the marina because it was a hike. They had an old-school pickup. They said jump in the back and they would drop me off. I jumped in the back with the instant flashback of childhood memories of riding in the back of trucks. I smiled at that feeling as they dropped me off. They asked about my trip a bit and wished me luck. I sat down under the shelter to work on my blogs. I was a little behind, but I was out to catch up. The rain was coming down strong and hard. I was glad to not be in my tent out in a field. I did some laundry and the machine must have wanted a glove for its taste. I lost one, but I had a back-up pair of gloves with me. I managed to call a few friends while I enjoyed the rain.
I managed to get a shower in before going to bed. I never know when I will have the opportunity to get another one. It was a nice day to be off and relax.
