Day 08: Cass Lake to Lake Winnibigoshish

Day 08: Cass Lake to Lake Winnibigoshish

I got off to a good start today. The waters were smooth and I was ready to go. I headed to leave Wolf Lake and make my way to Cass Lake. I missed the river exit and added a few extra miles to the start of my day. I just looked at it like a warm up. I got back onto the river channel after I turned around. This channel between lakes had a fair amount of pontoon and fishing boat traffic. Everyone was friendly and some slowed down to chat with me. I have been offered a LOT of beer from folks up here. Too bad I don’t care for beer. On a hot day in the future, that might change. I entered into Cass Lake and headed towards Star Island. Lake Windigo was located on Star Island. In the television series Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, the lake was designated as being the only lake within a lake in the Northern Hemisphere. There are a few other such lakes. It is, however, the only spring fed lake within a river fed lake in the northern hemisphere.I arrived to the lake, made lunch, and then went for a swim. It was nice to get out and play in the water. After some relaxation time, I headed out of Cass Lake. Some locals gave me a tip on where to find the shortest portage. I arrived to this landing and was getting ready to pull my boat to the other side of the river. There was adam blocking the way. Another boater told me to wait while he parked his truck and offered to come help me transport my boat. The boat is fully loaded and is not light. It does, however, hold everything I need for this journey.
I was making good time and decided to make it to a campsite located in the entrance of Lake Winnibigoshish (Winne). I was within a half mile when I met 2 kids in a canoe. There were brother and sister and they were staying at Becker’s Resort. We were talking about travel, gear, and adventures. They suggested I see about camping there. While we were talking in our boats, the sun light started getting really good. I asked them if I could get a few images of them for my book, They were all for it. I shot some great shots in the light provided and then headed to the resort. I spoke with the owners and offered to capture some resort images for a place to throw up my tent. They were all for it.
I got the shots I needed for them and then set up camp. I made dinner and then went to visit with Kolton and Arisa. I showed them the shots I got of them and got their information. I called it a night around midnight as a big day was waiting for me tomorrow.
